Indonesia is a country with abundant natural resources, one of which is wood and wood products, which are often a mainstay of exports. Increasing international trade activity has driven continued growth in wood product exports.

As environmental conservation issues grow, exporters are required to prove that the wood and wood products they sell are not sourced illegally. Therefore, proof is needed that demonstrates that wood and wood products originate from legal sources and are managed sustainably. This is why the government, through a collaboration between the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Trade, has implemented V-Legal (Verified Legal) certification for all exported wood products.

What is a V-Legal Document?

A V-Legal document is a document that certifies that wood products destined for export meet the timber legality verification standards stipulated by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
The V-Legal document must always be included as a supplement to export documents.

LEGAL BASIS

Minister of Trade Regulation No. 64/M-DAG/PER/10/2012 Article 14 paragraph 1 states “Exports of Forestry Industry Products as referred to in Article 2 must be accompanied by V-Legal Documents except for forestry industry products as listed in Attachment I C of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 81/M-DAG/PER/12/2013, Article 15 states the obligation to complete V-Legal documents as referred to in Article 14 paragraph (1);
