The development of the industrial sector in Indonesia, which has been underway for approximately 50 years, has not only had a positive impact on the country, but also negatively impacted environmental issues, particularly environmental pollution caused by industrial waste and inefficient use of natural resources. This has led to the development of the concept of sustainable development, one of which is green industry.
Law No. 3 of 2014 concerning Industry, the National Industrial Policy, and the National Industrial Development Master Plan state that “green industry” is an industry whose production processes prioritize the efficiency and effectiveness of sustainable resource use, thereby aligning industrial development with environmental sustainability and benefiting society. Therefore, the industry is currently focused on the green industry concept.
The green industry concept is not only related to environmentally friendly industrial development but also relates to an integrated, holistic, and efficient industrial system. This conceptual thinking has given rise to various studies, including in manufacturing, thus giving rise to the term “sustainable manufacturing.” Sustainable manufacturing: “the creation of manufactured products that are pollution-free, energy- and resource-efficient, economical, and safe for employees, the community, and customers.”
